event: PACT PACKAGING YOUNG BUTCHER OF THE YEAR
Finding New Zealand’s best young butcher
The Pact Packaging Young Butcher of the Year has been running in various forms for three decades and has always been a prestigious event, well regarded by the retail meat trade. We have re-introduced the competition as Pact Packaging “Young” Butcher of the Year, in an effort to get our younger butchers back in the game and competing on a more level playing field with contestants being qualified butchers, 35 years or under on the date of the Grand Final.
The competition runs alongside the ANZCO Foods Butcher Apprentice and begins with regional competitions which consist of a practical cutting test. From here, winners are selected to progress through to the Grand Final in Auckland. The Grand Final takes place in Auckland, as part of a formal awards ceremony, a highlight on the industry calendar, where up to 300 people from the industry come together to watch and support our industry’s young talent compete and to celebrate their successes at the dinner. The Grand Prize for the winner of the Pact Packaging Young Butcher of the Year is not only this great feat, but also a study tour to expand your horizons, a knife set and the trophy.
If you are aiming to be a Hellers Sharp Black, this is the competition to enter and to get recognised by industry. Competing alone is a huge achievement, not to mention an incredible opportunity to open the door for future opportunities.
