THE DUNNINGHAMS GREAT NEW ZEALAND SAUSAGE COMPETITION MEDALLIST SHOWCASE

Winning a medal at the Dunninghams Great New Zealand Sausage Competition is a big deal. It is a showcase of the talents and creativity of the nations best butchers and smallgoods producers. See what some of our past winners of the 2024 competition has achieved with their medals and what winning means to their team and business.

Aussie Butcher New Lynn, Auckland

Reuben and his team took home ten awards last year at the Dunninghams Great New Zealand Sausage Competition. The most out of any business that entered that year. It was a great moment for his team, to celebrate their hard work.

Aside from a growth in sales, the awards provide plenty of opportunities to promote their brand to future and existing customers.

Cattermoles Butchery, Kaipoi

Fred picked up two medals last year. A Category Champion medal for their Jalapeno, Smoked Cheddar & Ham sausage topping the Gourmet Varietal category and one Bronze medal for their Korean Pork sausage.

It’s great to see an increase of customers visiting his store to try their award-winning sausages and other meat products.

Meat at the Beach, Whangamatā

Steve and Janene really felt the love when they came home with a Bronze medal for their Real Beef sausage. The outpouring of support from the community resulted in the medal-winning sausage being sold out weekly after the results were first announced.

Attending the award mixer also provided an opportunity for them to network with other butchers and gain inspiration from other award-winning sausage flavours.

New World Rangiora, Canterbury

A Silver medal went to their Jalapeno & Tasty Cheese Sausage Pork sausage last year. Not only have they seen a growth in sales, but have received great feedback from their customers.

The team ran tastings to promote their award-winning, made fresh in-store sausages. Nothing like a free tasting to help drive sales.

Thomson’s Butchery, Papamoa

From winning one award in 2023 to winning six in 2024. Kurt was both surprised and proud to have won so many awards.

It’s a good thing it was not their first time taking home awards, as their winning sausages doubled in sales the first week the results were announced. Putting his team hard at work, they’ve now seen new customers returning regularly.

Westmere Butchery, Auckland

Westmere Butchery has become something of an institution with a very loyal following of customers. They are also no stranger to our competitions. Having taken out the Supreme award before in 2019 they have done it again in 2024 with their Pork and Leek sausage.

This win means a lot to Dave and his team. It drives them to continue to innovate and create even better products. A feature in the AM Show plus media write-ups has certainly put a spotlight on their business.

You may have also spotted their sausages at the Farro meat counters since the beginning of this year.
