THE GREAT NEW ZEALAND SAUSAGE COMPETITION MEDALLIST SHOWCASE

 

Winning a medal at the Dunninghams Great New Zealand Sausage Competition is a big deal. It is a showcase of the talents and creativity of the nations best butchers and smallgoods producers. See what some of our past winners of the 2023 competition has achieved with their medals and what winning means to their team and business.

New World Remuera, Auckland

It is not the first medal that New World Remuera has picked up from the competition. The team works hard in creating quality in-store products for their customers. This has paid off in winning a silver medal at the 2023 competition. 

 

New World Timaru, Timaru

New World Timaru won a Bronze medal for their Chicken Leek and Bacon Sausages at the 2023 competition. It seems their motivation for the 2024 has paid off, they’ve picked up one Silver and one Bronze medal this year.

There’s no shortage of award-winning products in South Canterbury.

 

Princes Street Butcher and Kitchen, Dunedin

Dave takes his awards back to his store, not only to celebrate with his team, but with the whole community who show their support. Even making a custom celebration cake along with a sausage sizzle to promote winning the best in category for their Traditional Pork sausage.

The boost in team morale also paying off in sales as well.

 

Sam’s Butchery, Silverdale

The Supreme winner for 2023 was totally taken by surprise when they won the top award. Sam’s Butchery regularly enters of competitions and have won many awards over the years. 

The win saw an influx of hungry customers, all wanting to try the best sausage in the country. Which the team can attribute to quality ingredients and hard work.

 

The Kiwi Butcher Shop, New Plymouth

The Kiwi Butcher Shop is no stranger to winning medals. You can see the awards display in-store. Stephen and his team picked up four awards in the 2023 competition across multiple categories. 

Using the competition to not only gain recognition within the industry, but also using it as a marketing tool to help drive sales.

 

Thomson’s Butchery, Papamoa

For Kurt, entering the competition has really paid off. Having purchased the business only a year ago, many of his regular customers had no idea of his new shop until they read in the local paper that he had won a medal for his San Choy Bow sausage in the 2023 competition. It brought a lot of brand awareness and connected new and old customers to his business. 

The shop sells a lot of innovative flavours of sausages using fresh ingredients and it has really hit the mark with judges and customers.
